Draft for John’s review
A message from our President
Why I’m carrying this work forward.

John Schooler Jones
President, The Kelso Institute
In the 1970s I had the privilege of working with Louis Kelso. [One or two sentences on what you did together and what you saw.] What struck me then still strikes me now: Louis was not trying to redistribute wealth. He was trying to change who owns the means of producing it.
Patricia Hetter Kelso spent more than five decades making sure that idea was not lost. With her passing, the responsibility for this work now rests with all of us who believe in it. I am honored to lead the Kelso Institute into its next chapter.
Our mission is simple: broadening the ownership of capital, so everyone shares in what technology produces.
That mission has never been more urgent. Machines, software and now artificial intelligence do more of the world’s work every year. If ownership of those tools stays concentrated, so will the income they produce. Kelso showed there is another way, and the employee stock ownership plan showed it can work.
Here is my commitment to you:
1
We will keep every work by Louis and Patricia Kelso free to read.
2
We will bring their ideas to a new generation of students, business owners and policymakers.
3
We will report openly on how every gift is used.
I invite you to read, to share and, if you can, to support this work.
John Schooler Jones
