John Schooler Jones

President, The Kelso Institute

John Schooler Jones is President of the Kelso Institute. He worked with Louis Kelso in the 1970s, and much of his career since has turned on a question close to Kelso’s own: who owns a business, and how that ownership passes to the next generation.

For more than 20 years, John has advised privately held, family-owned businesses on ownership and succession planning, helping owners hand their companies on smoothly and keep them strong for the people who come next. Before founding his own registered investment advisory firm, he worked in the corporate banking divisions of Wells Fargo Bank and Westamerica Bank, serving closely held businesses and their owners.

John holds a degree in economics from the University of San Francisco, with minors in accounting and finance. He and his wife, Anne, have made Sonoma County their home for more than 40 years.
