The Kelso Institute collects as little information about you as it can. This page explains what we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

What we collect

When you browse this site, our website host, Framer, counts visits to each page so we can see what people read. Framer does not use cookies for this, does not create identifiers that follow you, and does not tell us who you are. To count unique visitors, it uses a scrambled form of your IP address that it discards each day.

When you email the Institute, we keep your name, email address and message so we can reply. We use them only to respond to you.

When you make a gift, your payment is handled by [donation platform]. We receive your name, email address, mailing address if you give one, and the amount and date of your gift, so we can thank you and send any receipt the law requires. We never see or store your card or bank details.

The letter builder on the Write to Congress page fills in a letter from what you type. It all happens in your own browser. Nothing you type is sent to us or saved.

Cookies and outside services

We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. If you close the occasional support message on essay pages, your browser remembers that choice for 30 days so the message stays away. That note stays on your device and is never sent to us.

The two videos on The Ideas page play through YouTube. When that page loads, YouTube may set cookies and collect information about your visit under Google’s privacy policy.

Some of the site’s typefaces load from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address in order to deliver them.

Links to other websites, such as booksellers and news articles, are covered by those sites’ own privacy policies.

How we use and share information

We use what we collect to answer messages, process and acknowledge gifts, keep supporters informed if they have asked us to, and understand which parts of the site are useful.

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run the Institute, such as our website host and donation platform, or when the law requires it.

If we send you email updates, every message will include a way to unsubscribe.

Your choices

You can ask us to show you, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to stop contacting you, by emailing [public email]. California residents have additional rights under state law.

Because we don’t track visitors across other websites, this site works the same whether or not your browser sends a Do Not Track signal.

Children

This site is meant for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We use established service providers and limit who at the Institute can see supporter information. No way of sending or storing information online is perfectly secure, but we work to protect what you share with us.

Changes and contact

If we change this policy, we will update the date on this page.
